Update on the Organic Beauty Experiment

It's been almost a month, and I've noticed no nose-wrinkling, sideways looks or concerned comments about personal odors. I don't stink! I'm not a dirty hippie! Even my father has switched over to the homemade deodorant, so I think that we can declare a hands-down success. In addition to working better than the aluminum laden store versions, I've seen an improvement in my clothes. No more sticky mess from the wax that discolors my tops and makes laundry a chore.

On the makeup front, I'm pretty pleased with the mineral makeup. I wish that I'd thought about mica before I purchased, as I'm not a big fan of sparkle. The orangey Mangosteen is my favorite color-it really makes blue eyes pop! Never being a foundation wearer, I'm happy with the powder foundation, which is light and easy to apply. Though if it gets wet, there's definite clumping, making me look like someone who forgot to rub her concealer in after dotting it all over her face. Or in my case, under my eyes. Anyhow, as Maria would sing, "I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and bright!"

I love my facial cream so much. It's quite possibly the best moisturizer I've ever used. I wrote the company because the first product was just too strong for my skin, and they sent me a packet of sample products. How much do I appreciate good customer service?! I ended up purchasing the dry skin moisturizer and love it. Mom snagged my extra sample of eye cream but I hoarded the rest. Not-so-big-secret: I am a sample size addict! My roommates used to laugh at the containers of sample sizes under the sink...After depleting the sample size, I've added their matcha tea mask to my birthday want list...who doesn't like smearing green goop all over their skin, especially one that smells so good?

This is one New Year's resolution that seems to be sticking. Will I go back to drugstore products with ingredients I don't understand? Probably never.

p.s. Thanks for the African jewelry, Ellen and Biruk!
