Things to look forward to

My husband has promised to write a guest blog on current events, stupidity and big oil. Fun stuff...keep checking back for that.

I'm working on a post about bureaucracy, immigration and the what I love about being in a multi-nationality marriage. (p.s. Canadians aren't Americans!)

Heavy stuff...

Isn't Canada in North America? We had guests from Costre Rica a few years back and they were insulted that I kept saying "here in America". they said they too were Americans. Agreed not a United States Citizen, but an American.

Of course they're different- tell me about it.

It seems to be common that USA citizens are referred to as Americans. In Portuguese, "cidanania americana" (American citizenship) refers to someone from the USA, while "norteamericano" is a little more vague. And the politically correct "estadunidense" is fairly uncommon in practical use. Looks like we might have stolen the name of the continent for ourselves...whether that's fair or not is a different discussion, I think.

well, I would imagine canadians are "different" from us (u.s.) folks, as their whole system is different, even from place to place in canada (french vs brit, etc)

think it would be an odd time to work "in" big oil, w/all the spill stuff going on. look forward to reading!

as to american or not. well. vance is a north american, but canadian. you are a north american, but from The States...there's the geographical label and then there's the political/government-related/citizenship label. 2 different things.
