Super Bowl Sunday

Watched the Superbowl at Shenanigan's last night. Kind of glad the Flu-Bot game kept us from getting the pre-game national anthem. Do they dock the singer's pay if they flub the words? Someone should...at least Christina is being justifiably massacred via the internet for her inability to sing JUST THE FIRST VERSE correctly of her own national anthem. If you're still feeling the dizzying effects of that "coloratura caterwauling," check out Whitney Houston's 1991 anthem on YouTube to refresh your ears!

We were disappointed, too, in the ads. With the exception of Doritos, whose fingersuck ad was so unexpected that the whole bar gasped as if we'd all been simultaneously gut punched before doubling over in howls, the other ads were...boring. Added to the movie trailers, most of which were for reinventions (comic books and sequels), it's tempting to deduce that America is lacking, seriously lacking, in the creativity department. I don't think I can even get started on the Peas, for fear of sounding like a cranky grandma. Suffice to say, neither hubby nor I were impressed. I felt like I was in a TRON-themed brain freeze time warp...couldn't get excited about their show...and while the baggy diaper pants Usher and dancers wore did brighten our mood, it WAS out of derision. So that was my cynical take. What did you think of the ads, the singing, the halftime show?

On a Rio note, Shenanigan's has tacos. Let me say that again, since if you've had "mexican" food at other restaurants here, you might not really know what that word means. Tacos: available crunchy or soft; filled with spicy chicken or ground beef fillings, cheese, etc; sour cream on the side; and salsa that bites back. Shenanigan's has MEXICAN! And only R$24 for a plate of four, which is not bad, given prices for dinner around here...

Next time you're home, I'll talk to the lady who takes orders for tamales and then delivers them. Excellent Mexican food delivered to your local library parking lot! - Mom

yes, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the tamales, they are AWESOME!!! and a great value!
So, as to SuperBowl....I was mortified that CA didn't know the words. I certainly noticed, but wonder how many folks did, before it was pointed out to them...Like the Richard Stands part of the pledge of allegiance, lots of folks don't really know the words to these things..
the ads were...mostly dumb. The Doritos were pretty good, esp the Grandpa and the Urn one, but the amazing number of ads where the man gets hit in the crouch...several advertisers used that....so dumb...
the game was pretty good, altho there were the standard "why did you miss" moments, when you know the talent is there but not performing...but they are human after all...

oh, and blackeyedpeas, well, at least it was a "show" as opposed to recent years of past-done performers, not doing much of anything except avoiding falling off the stage...
Hey, the audi ad, w/the Afghan hounds and Kenny G was kind of amusing...
