Swimsuits

My baby sister is in town! So far, Rio has decided to play nice, and the weather couldn't be more perfect. So I imagine by the time she leaves, we'll both have some lovely tans to start the year off, as the blue skies just scream "Get your booty to the beach!"

Yesterday, we were approached by one of the beach vendors who was ridiculously insistent that we wanted his dried out popcorn, bland Globo biscuits and ugly mass-produced favela painting. When I demurred for the umpteenth time, he packed up his stuff again and asked if we were "gauchas." I guess with our white skin, we looked southern to him...and since he hadn't picked up a discernible accent, I nodded to get him to go away. But we had a good laugh afterwards, as my sister found it highly amusing to be mistaken for a Brazilian on hsr first day. It might have had something to do with the bikini top. Pregnancy has invalidated my swimsuit wardrobe, a fact I only discovered yesterday. Postage stamp bikinis are fine on other people, but not on me. Even for my Carioca-i-fied sense of modesty, I couldn't really walk out of the house in those now MUCH too small tops, and even my usually unfazed sister looked a bit scandalized. So we traded. After all, American swimsuits are made with a lot of excess material...

But I promised my sister that I'd look for a new suit, probably a winter one on sale, as they tend to be cut with a bit more fabric. (Fact. The link proves that this does exist.)

She thinks this is funny.

I guess I've been living here for so long, it almost doesn't seem strange to have such a thing as a "winter" swimsuit. :)

cute suit. Always think "apron" style suit, as they used to be called, for pregnancy, tho.....a bit of sun sounds nice, we are waiting for some sort of frozen precipitation....and is grey.....

Won't be sporting a one-piece, though. :) Then I'd REALLY stick out on the beach!

Ok, I'm Brazilian and I've never heard such thing as "winter swimsuit" on this lands! Haha!
I usually have a hard time to find myself a non-almost-naked kinda swimsuit. Thanks for the tip. ;}
